Features of Dewalt DWS716

Blade

The DeWalt DW716 comes with a 12-inch carbide blade with 60 teeth. The saw blade is belt-driven, making the startup process flawless and easy. The saw blade is also covered with a transparent blade guard to protect your hand while spinning.

Power

The DeWalt DW716 comes with a heavy-duty 15-amp motor that delivers a 1400 in-lb torque and 3800 RPM, making it easy to cut through tough materials like hardwood and larger pieces of lumber. The saw motor delivers full continuous power while cutting, whereas, on other low-quality miter saws, the motor’s cutting speed decreases while cutting thick hardwood pieces. That makes this saw ideal for construction sites.

Angle stops and detent plate

This saw comes with a well-calibrated and precise detent plate with 11 positive stops and a cam Miter Lock for most angles.

There is also a lever by which you can adjust the base for any angle besides the pre-set angles to override the detenting capability. If you like to cut near the 45 degree, this saw made it easy.

Dust collection system

The saw comes with a convenient dust bag. However, the dust bag is small and fills up quickly; empty it a lot when you work on frequent cuttings. Attach my vacuum for dust collection, working on a continuous job.

Grip and handle

It also has two side grips and top handles to carry it anywhere.

Features of Dewalt DWS716XPS

Miter detent plate

The stainless-steel miter detent plate has 14 positive stops that deliver repeatable accuracy and worksite durability.

Sliding fences

Tall sliding fences support crown molding up to 6-5/8 inch nested and base molding up to 6-1/2 inch vertically against the saw fence.

Design

Its double-bevel design allows the saw to bevel 0° – 48° to the left and right with positive stops at 0°, 22.5°, 33.9°, and 45°.

LED work light

LED work light system provides adjustment-free cut line indication for accuracy and visibility (Dewalt.com). Even working in low light conditions, you still have enough lighting for your project.

Dust collection system

The Dewalt DWS716XPS has an additional dust collection funnel. It is close to the blade, allowing more dust to the included dust bag or an attached dust extractor. The saw features a highly efficient dust duct concentrated at the cut point for a maximum collection. Since dust collection is problematic on miter saws, Dewalt engineers improved the system with the DWS716XPS.

What could have been better

Dws716

  • A cutting guide would have made it more user-friendly.
  • An XPS LED lighting would have made it more visible.

Dws716xps

  • An additional feature in a laser could have been advantageous. The laser guide will generate a bright laser line on the work surface when the saw blade is spinning above 500 rpm (Irwin.com).
  • More teeth on the carbide blade would have made the cuts more smooth.

Similarities

  • Both tools have the same weight (44 lbs).
  • They produce the same rotations per minute (3800rpm).
  • Both Dewalt tools have the same blade diameter (12 inches).

Differences between Dewalt DW716 and DW716XPS

  • The DW716 is more affordable than the DW716 XPS.
  • The DW716XPS double-bevel saw is equipped with LED lighting, which the dws716 does not have.
  • DW716 49-pound saw can move easier than the XPS.
  • The cutting ability of the DW716 is more powerful than the XPS.

The verdict

Both saw tools are incredible. However, you cannot have both tools but one that best serves your interests. If you need a miter saw that delivers more accurate projects, the DWS716XPS may be your top pick. If you work in low light, the XPS gives you a LED that will help you cut the material more accurately. If you have just started on woodwork, you might have to go for a user-friendly saw tool such as the Dws716. By now, you should have decided on the miter saw you want.
