If you are someone who is looking to make some hollow shapes such as spoons, bowls, and any other form if relieving carving, the Morakniv 133005 Carving Knife might just be an ideal suit for you.

It is not a secret that a straight blade will not aid in such cravings which is why a hook knife such as this one is quite necessary. This Morakniv 133005 Carving Knife comes with a blade in a narrow radius made of stainless steel and it is also sanded on three sides.

It comes as an ideal carving tool because of it’s ergonomic designed handle that makes it easier to use on one’s hand and wrist. The handle is made of birch wood that is oiled and hence ensures the necessary hold when working.

The handle is flat across the top, helping it fit perfectly into most hands. The blade is easy to sharpen as other knife models, but it seems to quickly lose its sharpness as compared to other blades. However, if you know how to sharpen it then that should not be a problem.

  • Is made from stainless steel
  • Is easy to use and easy to handle
  • Is easy to sharpen and easy to maintain
  • Is resistant to some corrosive elements
  • The handles have an ergonomic design making it easy to use
  • Is great for relief and hollow carvings

  • Is not as affordable as other knives
  • Has a hard time remaining sharp after slight use

Being made from stainless steel definitely adds points for this knife. The stainless steel allows it to be able to resist some corrosive elements meaning that it will not rust the moment you splash some water on it.

However, unlike carbon steel, stainless steel is prone to oxidation and rusting so with this knife you can expect to find some rust spots after some use.

The handles are made from birch wood which is quite durable and can handle some tough handling. However, like all woods it is prone to burning so one will have to make sure to not leave the knife close to open fire.

Also, the handle is designed in such a way that makes it easier for one who is a regular to make sure that their wrists and hands are comfortable and able to move around.

Well, one sad thing about this knife is that it doesn’t come as a cheap one. It’s not that expensive but it is slightly above the average point on the price scale. However, to some, it is definitely worth every cent to its name.

Our Verdict

All in all the Morakniv 133005 Carving Knife is a great knife and it definitely ticks all the boxes for hook knives. It is very much ideal for carving and hollowing out. The handles give it a comfortable feel for the hand and the wrist and it is designed to last long. The only problem is the price which is quite high but other than that, it is a great knife.
