ShopFox W1744 12″ Heavy-Duty Jointer with Adjustable Beds Review [UPDATED]

Are you looking for a jointer and want the best? What do you think of the ShopFox W1744 12″ Heavy-Duty Jointer? The average jointer flattens a piece of wood. Parallelogram table adjustment keeps tables aligned across the vertical range. A half-ton of cast iron mass dampens any motor vibration for perfect results.

While the heavy-duty jointer gives you the ability to work on larger pieces of wood, a big cast iron fence and a long table give you the necessary space to work on larger wood. This is the perfect jointer for smooth face planing and edge jointing, with a large capacity. In this article, we look at this jointer in detail.

ShopFox W1744

At face value, this jointer looks efficient, with every part meticulously put in place. The cast iron material it is made of already gives you the impression that it means business. It has a smooth cream look, thanks to the powder coating. The 13-inch by 83-inch table glistens and looks ready for heavy-duty work. This machine weighs a massive 970 pounds.

Performance Review

The Flexcut W1744 heavy-duty jointer has a large table so that you can work on larger projects. The tables are adjustable, which is one of the things that make this table a great buy. Depending on your comfort level and product specifications, you can work at any height. To adjust the height, you have an easy-to-access lever.

This jointer has a 3 HP, 240V, single-phase, 3450 RPM, and 15A motor. It has a maximum width cut of 1/8inches, a maximum rabetting depth of 3/4 inches, and a maximum width of 12 inches. The heavy-duty fence has an angled gauge.  This jointer has shielded and lubricated bearings to enable smooth running.

Safety precautions are to be taken when using this jointer. Always make use of guards. If you need to make any adjustments, make sure that the jointer is off at the power source. Also, make sure that the outfeed table is always kept even with the knives and inserts at the highest rotation point.

It is essential to make sure that you do not cut against the grain when jointing. This will need you to have excessive force, which in turn can be the cause of kickback and, consequently, injury. Also, reduce potential injury from accidental cutter head or kickback by making sure that you never work on wood smaller than 8 inches long, 3 1/4 inches wide, or 1 and 1/4 inches thick.

Who is this product ideal for?

Along with most Shopfox tools, this jointer needs to be used with extreme caution. You will have to have a certain level of skill to operate the jointer, or you risk getting hurt.

  • It has a large table
  • The beds are adjustable
  • It is precise
  • It has a powerful motor

  • It is unwise to use an extension cord with the machine, so you must make sure that you are close to the power source.

Our Verdict

This is a powerful jointer, and we think it is worth buying. It gives you precise heavy-duty planning and edge joining, making larger woodworking projects a breeze. See our Shop Fox W1860 Review.
