Additional Features

Safety Features

The W1819 features a blade guard assembly which consists of a clear polycarbonate shield, the spreader, and the anti-kickback pawls on each side of the spreader.

Guard, Spreader, Anti-Kickback Pawls

The clear polycarbonate guard allows the operator to see the blade cut the workpiece during operation. This guard is designed to lift as the workpiece is pushed into the blade and remains in contact with the workpiece throughout the entire cut.

Miter Fence with Flip Stop

The W1819 features a miter fence with a flip stop. This miter fence provides greater workpiece support than the miter gauge and is ideal for longer workpieces.

The flip stop comes in handy when making multiple cuts of the same width. It can be pivoted (flipped) out of the way to allow longer workpieces to be cut and pivoted back down to make additional cuts at your desired cutting width.

Blade Tilt

This saw allows the operator to tilt the blade to the left anywhere between 0 and 45-degrees. Great for cutting bevels, compound miters, or chamfers. Easily adjust your cutting angle by loosening the blade tilt lock and turning the blade tilt handwheel to position the blade at the desired angle.

Riving Knife

The riving knife works the same way as the spreader on the blade guard assembly. It is a metal plate that prevents the newly-cut workpiece from pinching the backside of the blade and causing kickback.

Buyerโ€™s Guide

Things to look for in a Cabinet saw

Power

The primary job of a cabinet saw is to cut through the thick, dense wood. It would help if you had two things to do this: a sharp blade and a powerful motor. The blades are bought separately, so your first consideration for a cabinet saw is how powerful it is.ย

Whatโ€™s going to shape your needs is the cutting youโ€™re going to do. The general rule of thumb is that if your wood is two inches or less, you can get by with a 1-2 HP motor. Anything above that will tax even a cabinet saw, and youโ€™ll want to get something with more muscle.

Stability

Cabinet saws are not small tools. They weigh hundreds of pounds, and if you order one from an online retailer, it will arrive on multiple pallets. You should be aware of this going in. If you need a saw that youโ€™ll move around frequently, a cabinet saw probably isnโ€™t the best choice for you.

Accuracy

One advantage of such a heavy, stable saw is that it can be precise in how it cuts. Since it has a powerful motor that isnโ€™t taxed too severely by a dense, thick wood, its cuts should also be predictable. More significant, heavier, and immobile means more accurate. When you go lighter and more portable, you are trading some accuracy for it.

Safety

Table saws are inherently less safe because operating them means putting your hands close to sharp, spinning blades. There are techniques and little extra tools that users have adopted over the years to reduce accidents but saw manufacturers have also responded by making safety a primary concern.

Dust collection

Cabinet saws are designed to be rugged enough for constant, daily use, so the potential for massive amounts of sawdust is pretty high. The more you use your saw, the more waste you create. That dust can make it harder to see what youโ€™re working on. Itโ€™s also a health hazard, especially in an enclosed place like a workshop.

Our Verdict

Having considered the features of the Shopfox W1819, we would recommend it for workshops.

Choosing a cabinet table saw is a big decision. Itโ€™s not that there are a million options. The problem is that the options are all quite similar. It can be hard to tell if you are getting a good value when comparing the different models.ย

Luckily, we have put together some reviews on the top six cabinet table saws that we could find. We found some stronger when it comes to power, others will lead the way as far as pricing is concerned, and some stand out as safety all starts. Whatever you want or need in a cabinet table saw the guide above will help you. Enjoy your shopping and good luck.
