Are you thinking of getting a new spoon carving knife but not sure what to go for? It is important to know what your desired result is. The Beavercraft SK1 Spoon carving knife 25mm is one that you could consider. 

Aesthetics

The first thing you will notice about this knife is the hooked blade. It almost looks like an inverted sickle but is much smaller. The hook aims to reach down into the wood and cut away the unwanted chips while also shaping the desired round shape.  

The handle, which is longer than the blade, is a light brown. It is made of ashwood, which has a nice looking clean color. The blade has a pointed tip, making it easy to reach certain places and allowing for more detailed carving.

This hook knife is small enough to fit comfortably in the palm of your hand. The handle is made of ashwood and covered with linseed oil which makes it smoother when you handle it. This is a right-handed hook knife. If you are a left-handed user, you will need to push to cut, which is more dangerous.

Durability

The handle material is durable and will withstand most pressure needed to carve out a spoon, bowl, or any such hollow. The blade also needs to be sharp so that you can easily cut through just about any wood. When it is blunt, it can be dangerous. The great thing is that the blade comes already sharpened. Make sure to keep it that way.

Price

For a single unit, this knife comes at an affordable price. However, the cost may seem like it mounts up if you want to buy more than one, which will be necessary. Using the hook knife, you can not carve a spoon from start to finish. You will need other tools such as a whittling knife to carve out the general.

Verdict

We like the Beavercraft SK1 – Spoon Carving Knife 25mm because it makes smooth accurate hollow shapes. We don’t like that it is only good for right-handed users, which means that left-handed users are at a disadvantage.
